Seriously, I was drawn into the story of this Louisville Kentucky witch’s family from the first page and was taken on a wild ride throughout the entire book. When is my Witchy Hour?Maggie is living with her mother, aunt, sister and family familiars (witch assistants) trying to figure out what her life calling is, working at the family diner while trying to fit in as a mortal and be a learned witch at the same time. Talk about living undercover in plain site!
The Park family lives in the south, interacting with people I can relate to oh so well! Being from the south myself, I can just hear all of the sayings coming from the neighbor, Mrs. Hubbard and Auntie Meme. A multitude of “bless your heart”, “fair to middlin” and others sprinkle the entire book and make me feel right at home. I even know neighbors with those plastic flowers. Bless their hearts….
Maggie is a go-getting, ready to escape the clutches of her family young woman in her late 20s who is ready to get on with her life. So, naturally she gets involved, by accident, in a drug bust where she meets a handsome guy, Mick, who ends up being an undercover agent for a secret organization. But, not before she zaps some poor guy into a cat. Sweet! After three bodies, finding out her car tends to talk and drive on it’s own, it’s Mick who starts to find Maggie irritatingly intriguing when the SKUL organization hires her as a secret citizen agent to work a case involving Mystic Couture makeup. She already lives undercover anyway, right?
This book is fast paced, full of humor and fun suspense. You also get a good taste of the south with this amazing witch family. I loved how Maggie develops throughout the story. You can see her grow up and start to come into her own, taking responsibility for her powers and who she is to the family and the mortal world.

Another series by Tonya Kappes and a cozy paranormal mystery? Of course i had to try it and i'm so happy i did!
Maggie is a witch and a strong spirited one, acting like a child at time ( really playing with magic for a dare?!) she still can be responsible as well...when she wants to but she has a tendency to call trouble. Her familiar is Vinnie, a car. First time i read about a non animal familiar and i loved him protective, jealous he can be so funny and territorial ( who though a car could be^^).
In this universe, witches can hide in the normal world but can't reveal what they are which is understandable. However they each have a role or a job perfectly fit for them and they discover what it is when they live their Witchy Hour. No one knows when or how it happen it simply happen differently for each witch. Maggie longs to discover her destiny, she is bored helping at the family diner how she likes it but she wants to know what she is means to be....and for someone so impatient she doesn't understand it when it hit her. One day, meeting someone she starts feeling needles everywhere and her magic becomes wonky...because Mick Jasper an investigator for a secret organization is part of her destiny...and none to happy to have met this strange girl with even stranger car that keeps getting in the way of his investigation.
But fate knows what he is doing and soon Maggie is recruited to go undercover as his partner....even if it's supposed to be temporary, even if it's more appearances than reality Maggie discover she loves doing that and will do her best to solve her case without revealing any family secret.
It was really funny, the investigation was interesting despite the fact i guessed the culprit way too soon but it didn't matter with the characters it was fun to follow false leads , watch their attraction grow and their bickering incessant as Maggie refuse to reveal how she knows what she knows and Mick wants to discover what she is and what 's wrong with her car.
If you are looking for a paranormal cosy mystery with magic this is definitively one you have to try
What a crazy little story. It started out kind of claustrophobic because we have a 28 year old woman being bossed to within an inch of her life by a great aunt and her mother and big sister as well as a demanding legacy hanging over her. She also has a crappy life of routine and drudgery--not so much the diner work, but more the fact she is beholden to everyone's demands on her time and has to follow a very strict schedule.
But it soon enough really got fun and exciting in a Scarecrow and Mrs King kind of way for any of you who ever saw that show about a divorced housewife leading a double life as a spy working with a gorgeous secret agent.
That is, if Mrs King had actually been Samantha from Bewitched.
Maggie is a pretty tough and brave take charge kind of lady when she's away from the old witches who control her life. I actually liked her mom and aunt and sister well enough. They're just a bit overbearing, but in a way that's understandable. I had fun picturing the original Morticia Addams as Maggie's mom.
There is a car sort of like KITT from Knight Rider. And the leader of the spies is named Burt Devlin which I have to guess is a reference to Burke Devlin from Dark Shadows. I am guessing the author must be near my age and has watched a lot of the same shows I did.
Anyway it was crazy and fun and I can't wait to read the next book.
