Great story! This novelette tells how a wealthy, privileged noble's daughter became the salty, cheeky Captain Rance Cooper of Star Streaker. Can hardly wait for the next installment!

An arranged marriage, an absent mother and a power hungry father finally destroy all hope that Rance will ever please her father enough to be allowed to live her own life. She mistakenly believed that going to the Flight Academy proved she was going to captain her own ship. Instead it was another power play for her obedience. With nothing left to lose Rance devises a way to leave her old life behind. And thus the real story begins!
Ok, I'm not at all sure why this is styled Star Streaker #3 other than the fact that it's the third book in the series to be published. In fact it's a prequel to the other two books in the series and should rightly either be labeled as such or as book 1. Outside of that, it's neat to get Captain Rance Cooper's back story. Well written, this is simply a fun tale - the only complaint (as with all books in this series so far) being that it was too short.
In this serial short story of the star streaker series, we get to go back into the past and read about how Rance became Captain of her ship. It opens with Rance just graduating flight school and we meet her parents and the idiot Harrison. Well written and interesting to read to find out how she escaped from her powerful father. Cannot wait for the next book. The writing is addicting. I received a free copy and this is my honest review, Good story.
kindle unlimited, in 4 pack listed #1 as because doesn't show up AT ALL on , shows up as Solaris in the 4 pack as #1 BUT on doesn't show up at all AND #1 shows as The Wizard's flight, BUT has different story in part, so made already confusing to to 'no way to even tell the order of the books', at least the blurb, this is a waste of time, not even reading, just trying to get order right and the blurbs being more confusing than the rest even. The collection shows THIS book Defiance as #3 yet on just lists, sorta, in blurb, that it's prequel book, so #3 is actually listed on as Persephone Evasion (Star Streaker Book 3) ON AMAZON BUT here on goodreads has same book listed as #5, from all this crap just trying to figure out which book, which title, to read in which order, and the content of the story, my best suggestion is not to bother with reading any of them, listS at end of review.

THIS one does NOT show up on , instead Wizard's Flight, which TOTALLY skips what happened to the butlet and how main character's friend shows up as pilot, and where he was in all this before. Lists #1 Wizard's Flight A Space Opera Adventure (Star Streaker Book 1) but not exact story as THIS #1, totally different time frame, 2 to 5 years later or else since the books/order so messed up, and attempting to figure order to read, looking at multiple books, but none make sense!
Episode #2 The Deliverance Code
Episode #3 Defiance--flashback episode (prequel)
Episode #4 Prometheus Rescue
Includes an additional short story, “A Conversation”

Fast moving and easy read.
I enjoyed this book very much. I LOVED finding out answers to questions that I had in the previous 2 books. I am looking forward to the next one because it is a full novel.
